I think it was Lester Bangs wrote without quoting the exact song he was referring to in regards to Roxy Music,"Making a love song sound like the decline of the West is no mean feat".
Lester Bangs made his career as a rock critic in the 1970's.His greatest claim to fame was his clashes with Lou Reed in his Metal Machine Music phase,talking about how his pet hermit crab used to dance to it.
It would've sounded like depth charges more like it.
Anyway,I don't think Mr Bangs has to much experience with love.Love is very much a battlefield of peoples intrusions trying to prevent it from occurring.The rarest commodity is unconditional love and to be it,as Bryan Ferry screams into the microphone,"You're so pure not for this world,so gentle and light".
The BOB is short for the 'Battle of Britain'.Enjoy Roxy Music with Brian Eno at their arty grittiest.My Favourite.I was scolded for this at school,mocked and humiliated and I don't care.

Didn't include the original vinyl start which is centered at a cafe setting,people murmuring in the background and you hear the band cut in abruptly.It was my first love with Roxy Music,even though the first album I bought was Viva Live ! at 14.It was second hand at a Budgewoi bookshop.
Six weeks later I had the debut album,imported from the UK,expecting Virginia Plain,as I just seen Beatbox on the ABC,showcasing that song.
I wasn't disappointed it wasn't there,Roxy's debut is in my top five of all time,along with The Velvet Underground and Nico.It's an Art-Rock masterpiece but most Roxy fans of the early era select 'For Your Pleasure' as their greatest contribution.

This is the video that started it all back in 1979 when my parents were having dinner with Captain Kangaroo,a corrective services officer killed in the line of duty further on.But I remember the killers name,Peter Schneider,died of a heroin overdose the month I tracked him down after release.
No-one noticed I went for a bike ride at 10:30 and got back at 11:45pm.I went from Campsie to Ashfield and back and there was this music show on channel 7,'Afterdark',starts at 12 midnight,experimental for that era.
Two songs came on that changed my look on music and life,Roxy Music's Virginia Plainand this funny little bare-chested man,in black leather pants and a horse-tail,"Here comes Johnny Yen again,with the liquor and drugs"...My nine year old mine was blown by Iggy Pop,Roxy Music/Eno and Devo that year.

Hardcore punks would scoff at my Roxy roots,but I was into this by years before the Sex Pistols came along.And I look back at The Sex Pistols as snotty nosed kids,compared to John Lydon's darker,arty,menacing but sophisticated early era Public Image Limited,Metal Box,also in my top five.
But I had a taste for art-rock,elegance a certain dress-style,a cross between The Velvets and Roxy.It's just who I am.I'd rather retire over-looking "Blue suns and grey lagoons"than rot in some speed ghetto.
